i brace myself on his forearms

he kisses me deep mid-moan,

tasting of our confessions

i am scared he may take too much,

desecrate this hallowed touch.

(there is a moment:

of wanting.

of curiosity.

of wishing.

/he lowers himself

asks if he can try something/

my breath terrifyingly rapid—

not ready.

not wanting.

not capable.)

he stops.

tells me

this is my body,

my choice: he raises himself

asks if i was okay,

if i wanted to keep going,

asks again if i’m okay,

tells me this is my altar first,

his last.
